With all the talk about the end of Yancy’s, and what might become of that space, it’s interesting to take a look at the importance in Raleigh history that piece of land holds. The area of Fayetteville Street that houses Yancy’s and The Hudson used to be home to one of the most popular spots in the city.

UPDATE: Central Prison Medical Center Meeting Tonight


 
The location of tonight’s meeting and presentation on the North Carolina Central Prison Medical Center Expansion has changed again.It will now be held at the Central Prison Auditorium at 7:30

 

North Carolina Central Prison Expansion: Mental Health Hospital and Medical Center


 
The North Carolina Department of Corrections is building a new mental health hospital and prison medical center--an expansion on the Boylan Heights side of Central Prison. This is the second largest active construction project in downtown Raleigh.
 

 

City has New Rain Barrels For Sale

The city has a nice selection of rain barrels of various prices.  Recently they added some new options including a very affordable $42 model.

The City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services Department has now a new rain barrel option available for sale to residents at a discounted price.  Raleigh owned company Rain Water Solutions is offering its 65 gallon rain barrel normally selling for $149, for $87 plus tax ($92.87).  The rain barrel is manufactured from 100% recycled plastic resin in Smithfield, NC.
