Recycle your CFLs in Raleigh

Raleigh’s Waste Reduction Specialist, Linda Leighton, announced today that residents can now recycle compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) in Raleigh. Until now CFLs had to be taken to one of Wake County’s Household Hazardous Waste Facilities, the North Wake facility open the first Saturday of each month and the South Wake facility open the third Saturday of each month.

Raleigh Rickshaw Joins Forces with Greenway Transit

There has been a lot of talk lately about gas prices, alternative transportation and how to live a healthy transit lifestyle in Raleigh lately. Raleigh Rickshaw, one of the driving forces in green transportation in downtown Raleigh, has announced that they will be partnering with Greenway Transit to create an even greener transportation system for tourists and residents.

Raleigh Rickshaw only started its operations just over a year ago and can now be seen on any busy street in the downtown region, from Glenwood South to City Market. New rickshaws riders hit the streets of Raleigh almost weekly. Greenway’s success wasn’t so immediate. After starting the Chapel Hill-based business in 2006 and merging with “a biofuels-based transportation company”, the company had a setback when its founders moved from the area. Therefore, the marriage of these two progressive companies seems a fitting solution for an area looking towards the future of alternative transportation in an urban setting.

Greenway also has biofuel-powered vehicles that it uses for major events in the area (weddings, conferences, etc).  These should come in handy in downtown with the Raleigh Convention Center opening in a few weeks. Let’s hope Raleigh Rickshaw doesn’t stop here! I see a full takeover of downtown transportation on the horizon.
